The game allows us to immerse ourselves in an unprecedented era of the magical world, and it is fun to explore.
This game was developed by Avalanche Software, this open-world RPG aims to unleash your imagination as a new student at the legendary School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Overview of the game
Ignoring the narrative limitations of Harry's story, the game jumps back in time to around 1890. After creating your character, you will take part in a short introductory adventure before entering Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Although you're a freshman, you're starting your magical career a bit late, having enrolled in fifth year. That's because a wide-eyed 11-year-old freshman exploring dangerous caves, learning dangerous spells and fighting dark wizards can be very different.
Customization options are an important part of making your magical world fantasies come true, and they're a lot of fun. You can choose your character's gender and appearance. Then choose and mod a wand (don't worry, it's a loan the game starts with) and a broom.
You'll also be sorted into Hogwarts House (Slytherin FTW) based on a series of questions you answer upon entering the school, but if your first choice doesn't suit you, you can start over.
The house you end up in doesn't appear to have changed much other than the common room, uniforms, and disposable leashes.
Her training is sometimes marked by a main story centered around mysterious ancient magic and her relationship with a sinister dark wizard allied with the violent leader of the goblin rebellion. It's an intriguing story that fits well with this world's lore, especially in regards to events in the past, but at times it takes a backseat among all of the game's other distractions.
Life in a magical world
The development team's love for Harry Potter is evident in every aspect of the Hogwarts legacy, but it is most evident in the world and its characters. Every teacher, student, and location is unique and authentic, so fans will feel comfortable with familiar names like Wesley and Black.
Each character is richly written, intelligently voiced – Simon Beck plays the obnoxious director – and visually diverse, making them fun to relate to and explore their pasts. (However, it's disappointing that we can't pause during cutscenes.) This characterization is interwoven with the main story and side quests, which range from uncovering a mystery in the castle to secretly grabbing drug paraphernalia and wandering into a dangerous cave.
They are varied and interesting in terms of gameplay, exploration and puzzle solving, but still rewarding as they provide opportunities for explorers to learn more about the world. Teenage silliness reminds me of the old Harry Potter how to sneak into the library in the middle of the night using an invisibility charm.
The custom avatar voice acting is solid but a little flat at times. However, it is preferred to hear from real teenagers. The character models are convincing enough, but the eyes move unnaturally and can be uncomfortable.
The world is richly crafted too, especially at the gorgeous gothic Hogwarts, which features animated paintings, talking grunts, and charming student banter. There are so many collectibles and Easter eggs to discover that you will want to explore every corner. Picking up certain items gives you a satisfying nod to the John Williams theme. The nearby village of Hogsmeade isn't huge but still offers plenty of fun.
Despite the Elder Scrolls feel, the colorful hills, plains, and settlements that make up the rest of the world can feel a bit dull in comparison.
The game's technical limitations can also become apparent when traversing environments. Assets can be loaded at the side of the page and the lid can be taped as an area beyond the loading. It didn't feel groundbreaking, but it might shake your immersion for a second.
Magic trading tricks
The multifaceted nature of the wizard is revealed little by little in the wee hours of Hogwarts legacy. Your character starts out with the most basic dueling skills and spells, but the way you cast spells with your wand adds a unique dynamic flow to combat.
Block attacks with a magic shield and parry larger attacks. Combat is similar to Batman: Arkham and Spider-Man, but with a magical aesthetic. The more magical battles you desire, the more instant gratification you will have.
Sparks fly as two students mix potions in the Hogwarts Legacy cauldron.
Potions class is a lot of fun and has one of the best teachers.
Upon arrival at Hogwarts, you can learn new spells and skills in classes such as Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions and Herbology. Basically, the quest flow gives you time to get comfortable with each new ability before introducing another - you take a course and then apply what you've learned in a few story missions or side quests.
The game encourages you to use every tool in your arsenal instead of learning a few basic combos and relying on them to get you through each fight. You'll probably play for a few hours before the skill trees unlock, but by then you'll have a feel for the fighting style you like. Everything you do gives you experience points, so you keep leveling up.

When you're fighting dark mages, you have plenty of offensive and defensive options.
In addition to changing your character's appearance, new equipment is constantly being added to improve your attack and defense. You can also use the look of previous outfits for new outfits so you don't look ridiculous because a particular item has high stats.
Annoyingly, the inventory limit adds unnecessary friction to exploration. You can find new items, but you can't select them. Fast-traveling to Hogsmeade to sell additional items while wandering the castle is boring.
Luckily, Hogwarts' legacy doesn't borrow too much from the school environment. There is no need to stick to a strict schedule. Instead, you don't participate in classes because you have to advance the story and add new gameplay elements to the classes.
After you complete your first flying lesson and grab your broom, the world expands. There's a bit of a learning curve beyond that, but it's exciting and highlights the breadth of play areas.
Hogwarts Legacy evokes the magic of the first chapter of the first book, allowing you to explore a beautifully crafted world, meet an intriguing cast of characters, and begin your own wizarding career. For decades
